should outcomes be marked?

Should outcomes be marked as disease concept?

Examples:

"death in infancy"
"pregnancies which resulted in termination"
"sequential abdominal punctures were unsuccessful"

Oh that's a tough one!  This is a little bit dependent on the case since some outcomes could potentially be seen as signs/symptoms.  For the most part, I would not mark outcomes of the disease, nor would I mark treatment outcomes.

In your examples, I would not mark "death in infancy" nor would I mark "sequential abdominal punctures were unsuccessful".  However, I might mark "pregnancies which resulted in termination" (miscarriages) as a symptom of a disease if the doc was about a disease of the reproductive system.  But I would NOT mark it if the doc was about the lethality of a genetic disease to embryonic/fetal development (outcome).

Not sure if that helps at all, but I think this one has a bit of context-dependence.

What about marking "sequential abdominal punctures were unsuccessful" as a treatment? As I recall, the abdominal punctures were an attempted treatment.

I would only mark the "sequential abdominal punctures" portion of that phrase as a treatments concept.
