"I get an error message on every screen refresh saying "use a laptop not a phone". I *am* on a laptop. I suspect the problem is that it's a Chromebook with a touch screen?"
You're right that the issue is due to the touch screen. Mark2Cure doesn't work well using touch screen interface, and unfortunately even if you have a pointing device on your laptop you will get that message.
